What you put in your body is just as important as what you put on it! This is why you need to give your face the love it deserves with Best Natural Organic Face Moisturizers. It’s so cold here in Canada and no matter what type of skin you have you need to make sure it’s well moisturized. Most conventional skincare comes with a whole bunch of nasty chemicals that we don’t want anywhere near our faces.
How to choose the Best Natural Organic Face Moisturizers
Cosmetics and skincare companies promise us magical transformation in a bottle. They promise to make our skin smoother and melt the years away. We want to believe those promises so much that sometimes we don’t ask what’s in the bottle.
The truth is there is no magic in a bottle and most conventional skincare products come with a cocktail of crappy chemicals like moisturizing agents, detergents, oils, waxes, silicones, emulsifiers, preservatives, colours and fragrances (perfumes).
We are exposed to these chemicals daily thanks to all the items we use, aside from proving that these products don’t cause immediate allergic reactions, cosmetic companies are not required to prove their ingredients are safe over long periods of time. A shampoo for example can have 20 ingredients that are all synthetic and made in a lab.
Studies have shown that some of these can cause long-term health effects. Some of the ingredients are even considered hazardous waste by some cities, nail polish is one example.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the safety of chemicals in skincare products. And I have to agree there are two sides to every story, but at the end of the day, I just don’t think it’s necessary to expose ourselves to synthetic chemicals at all. I mean you wouldn’t eat them, so why put them on your body when there are so many wonderful natural face moisturizers to choose from, all packed with ingredients that you can eat (well almost). If you are looking for green beauty brands from Canada that are killing it, look no further.
The other major issue with most convectional companies is how they source the ingredients and how the farmers are treated. I’ll talk more about this later on.
8 Best Natural Organic Face Moisturizers
Cocoon Apothecary
Cocoon’s Rosey Cheeks Facial Cream is one of the best organic face moisturizers for dry skin. It’s made with organic Rosehip and avocado oil both of which help to smooth the skin. The shea butter is what gives amazing moisturizing benefits. Your skin will feel good all day long. I’ve been using Cocoon’s products for about 10 years and I love each of them. If you like the smell of rose you will love this. If rose is not your vibe try the Orange Blossom.
This natural beauty brand is one of the pioneers in green beauty in Canada. Jessica is the brains behind all of these amazing creations. All of her products are derived from nature, most of them are certified organic, vegan and cruelty-free.
Jessica and her team hand formulate everything in their own lab and work with biodegradable plant-based ingredients that are compatible with our skin.
All raw ingredients are ethically sourced and the final products come in a glass bottle, with can be reused or recycled and they also have a bottle recycling program. Love that! Use THEECOHUB15 at checkout. 💚
BKIND Superfruit Face Moisturzier
BKIND is a Canadian brand that I was recently introduced too and let me just say I am in love. I started with their hand cream which has been a lifesaver for me this winter. Their superfruit face moisturizer is one of the best natural organic moisturizers for sensitive skin.
It’s packed with so many beneficial ingredients, like mango seed butter that penetrates the skin quickly and Bakuchiol which is a natural retinol. I love that this cream is not water-based (like most), which means a little goes a long way.
It’s also vegan and cruelty-free (all their products are) comes in glass packaging and if you live in Quebec you can purchase it in bulk.
BKIND is based in Montreal and founded by Marilyne Bouchard who is a microbiologist. Her company is working hard to reduce its environmental footprint. All the products are formulated locally in Quebec. The box is cardboard and can be recycled. They ship all their items without plastic.
They are leaping bunny approved and they donate 2% of their sales to animal shelters in the area.
You will notice that some of their products do come in plastic packaging. They are working to make that more sustainable by using Ocean Bound Plastic, which is defined as:
“ocean–bound plastic is plastic that has not yet found its way into the ocean and is classified as “mismanaged waste.” That is plastic that is not being collected and not likely to be collected and is found on the ground within 50 kilometres of a waterway or coastal area.”
I have reached out to BKIND to ask for more information on where and how they source their raw materials. I will update the post once I hear back from them.

Alpyn Beauty
Alpyn’s PlantGenuis Melt Moisturizer is probably one of the best natural organic moisturizers for mature skin. It’s packed full of ultra-moisturizing ingredients like bakuchiol to aid with fine lines and squalane to replenish moisture. Which my dry, ageing skin needs desperately right now.
The face moisturizers are part of a simple and minimalist lineup of skincare products from Alpyn. They only make six products right now, so you are sure to find something perfect for your face. All of their products are chemical-free, organic, non-GMO, and free of synthetics.
Alpyn has won so many coveted beauty awards from Byrdie and Shape. They have such an interesting story. All of their ingredients are wildcarded from the mountains of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. One of the only brands in the world to do this. This part of the USA has some of the harshest winds and temperatures which makes the plants so resilient, and when applied to the skin, you get all the benefits!
They are vegan and cruelty-free. Although they are not certified organic they are 100% natural and sustainably sourced and since they are wildcrafted and picked near their headquarters, there are absolutely no pesticides or chemical fertilizers used.
With every purchase, the brand gives back 1% of sales to environmental causes. All of their packaging comes in glass, the plastic lids are made using Ocean Bound Plastic, giving them a Net Zero Plastic footprint.
Wildcraft Care
This is one of my TOP picks for natural face moisturizers. I have used this brand for years and they never ever disappoint. Based in Toronto, Canada they handmake all of their products in their own lab, in small batches. The Restore Geranium and Orange Blossom Face Cream is made manufactured sustainably using a high concentration of fatty acids, which help with mature skin. It’s also one of the best natural organic face moisturizers for sensitive skin.
It has a very rich texture and little really does go a long way. The smell is subtle and simply beautiful. It’s 86% organic, cruelty-free and vegan. All the ingredients are plant-based and socially conscious.
The rosehip oil and geranium oil will help to restore and give your skin a little extra vitality.
I know the founder Laura very well. She is a real gem and has been making ethical skincare for many years. Their body oil is simply divine as well! And do is the body whip, if I could eat it I would.
All of their items are packaged glass, the lid is made of plastic, but you can recycle those or send them back to The Detox Market as part of their take-back program.
UpCircle Beauty
UpCirlce checks all the boxes when it comes to clean beauty. Made in the UK, their Zero Waste Face Moisturizer with Argan Powder is formulated with repurposed argan shells. How cool is that! It’s one reason why it’s the best organic face moisturizer for all skin types.
Other hero ingredients include:
Cocoa butter, an anti-inflammatory to help with flare-ups,
Aloe vera which is packed with Vitamins A and C, all help to calm the skin’
Blood orange, high in anthocyanins to combat inflammation.
This cream is deeply hydrating and fast-absorbing. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free, which I love, obviously. It comes in a glass jar with a metal top, it’s plastic-free and zero-waste.
Back in 2015 bother and sister duo and founders got to thinking about how much waste the coffee industry is responsible for, it’s a lot! So they decided to do something about it. Coffee grounds are really good for the skin! So they transformed ingredients that would “otherwise be discarded into natural, organic beauty products – better for you, better for the world.”
Each product in their range sources and rescues by-products from other industries – the food and drink industry in particular.
Their whole business model is based on the circular economy. All of their ingredients are sustainably sourced and organic. They are palm oil-free, ocean-friendly and 100% plastic-free!
Satya
Satya is an Aboriginal-owned business that uses 5 simple, yet SUPER effective ingredients in its range of products. Their natural moisturizer called Satya Basics is formulated with Organic Calendula Petals, Organic Cold Pressed Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Cold Pressed Jojoba, Organic Colloidal Oatmeal.
If you are suffering from eczema or dry flaky skin this is magic in a jar. This product has over 700 reviews all touring its effectiveness. All 5 of these ingredients work in harmony to protect, moisturize and hydrate your skin. It comes in a glass jar with a metal cap, you can also order a refill for this item.
The founder Patrice developed this Organic moisturizer to help her daughter with her eczema. She looked to traditional medicine to develop her skincare line, which is fragrance-free and USDA-certified organic. It’s also cruelty-free but not vegan as it does have honey in it.
All of their ingredients are sourced sustainably and every product is refillable with a 100% compostable, zero-waste pouch.
One of the things I love about this brand is its partnership with The Plastic Bank, an organization that employs people in developing nations to collect plastic to be recycled. Every time you buy one of Satya’s sticks they make a donation to this organization.
They are also 100% carbon neutral with the Coastal First Nation’s Great Bear Rainforest Initiative.
Element Botanicals
Love this Canadian company that makes all of their products with wildcrafted herbs and plants, including their Amazing Cream (love the name) which is formulated. with botanically infused olive and carrot tissue oil (Loaded with antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamins A, B, C, D and E.) blend which can help to improve the skin’s barrier function.
Each of the plants used in this cream area picked when they are in season and then infused into different oils to make this natural face moisturize.
They ethically wild harvest many of these effective botanicals from around their mountain home. And with names like Aches Away, Bed Of Roses and Man UP, you are sure to find something you love. This Amazing Cream can be used on other parts of the body and has a ton of really awesome reviews too.
Here we create botanically charged, aromatherapy spiked goods, featuring wild-harvested and homegrown plants, all of which have been carefully chosen for their benefits and uses in traditional herbalism.
This natural and organic moisturizer is cruelty-free and vegan but they do have some products that have beeswax in them and they do come in plastic packaging. I added this company to the list because they are affordable and a small Canadian business that I want to support.
Crawford Street Skincare
I love this product because you can use it all year round. It’s really good for combination skin + dry skin and contains hazelnut seed oil, which is a natural astringent that keeps the skin matte. Combine that will the healing benefits of borage seed oil (helps with inflammation and skin tone) and you have a powerhouse natural organic face moisturizer.
It’s vegan, cruelty-free, and GMO-free. You can choose from two other face creams, the hydrating cream, which helps to repair damaged skin thanks to the Sea Buckthorn oil. And the Restorative Beaty Balm for a dose of daily hydration.
Crawford Street is located in Toronto and the founder prides herself on choosing ingredients that are fair-trade, sustainably harvested, and organic. All of the products are 100% natural and free from crap like Parabens, Sodium Laurel Sulphate. etc.
Although this product is vegan, they do carry some items that contain beeswax. This natural face moisturizer comes in a glass jar, which you can reuse, the top is plastic FYI.
What defines natural organic face moisturizers?
The Green beauty industry made the term “natural” popular when it began about 10 years ago. Prior to this we really never thought about whether our beauty products were “natural” or not. The term itself can be really confusing to most consumers and really gives the sense that it’s a luxury item that most of us can’t afford, making it very inaccessible to most.
Of course, this comes down to very clever marketing. But it’s not actually the case.
As someone who makes my own skincare products, “natural” to me means some of the best beauty ingredients are found right in my kitchen.
Nature provides us with so much of what we need to stay beautiful. Plant extracts, luxurious oils, herbs and even whole foods like avocado and oats.
Natural can therefore be defined as being pure or unadulterated, meaning nothing has been added to it. It also means that the manufacturing process is pure, that no chemical fertilizers are used on the plants before they are harvested.
Natural and sustainable go hand in hand. All the brands we talked about above use plants and botanicals that are free of pesticides, some of them are cold-pressed (oils) or refined, and sometimes they are organic and/or vegan. Pay close attention to labels, organic does not mean cruelty-free and vice versa. They are typically also non-GMO,
If a brand is claiming to be “natural”, always look for third-party certification, like ECOCERT, USDA, etc.
Choosing a natural moisturizer
No matter your skin type, you need moisture, even if you have oily skin or acne you still need it. You need to choose a natural organic moisturizer that suits your skin and sometimes that means trial and error. If you are a normal-combination you can choose something light like Cocoon or Alpyn. For dry skin, you will need a richer cream like Wildcraft Care or Satya. For ageing skin look for products that have Vitamin E to promote collagen.
How do you make homemade moisturizer?
Choosing a natural organic face moisturizer means you can make your own, and there is so much beauty in that my darling reader!
My BEAUTY BALM contains some of the most potent oils and butters, it’s good for all skin types and will revive and nourish your skin.
